Well the western police responded the way you would expect them to. Maybe the stomping was excessive but the guy did start the altercation.
Pakistanis are used to a police force which can be intimidated by individuals (because they know if the other guy turns out to be politically or socially poweful, he will fuck their whole lives up and their dept wont support them), western police operate in a different way.

Let’s break this down. The police threw the first punch and witnesses claimed that the mother was assaulted aswell. This video, although longer still doesn’t show the full sequence of events.

In a liberal democracy like the UK, if the police decide they have impunity to start assaulting members of the public and give themselves discretion to hand out punishments, then according to the law the citizen has the right to defend himself and fight the officer. A side point, if a citizen suspects a police officer of committing a crime, the law gives him the right to restrain the officer and perform a ‘citizens arrest’

This footage would have been available immediately to the police aswell as body cam footage. The fact that they didnt charge them the same day suggests they know full well in a court of law it would be difficult to prove wrongdoing on the part of the boys

Cop and criminal (well they’re both criminals) should be in jail.  Starting a fight inside an airport over small dong stuff is possibly the stupidest thing in the world (dude started the fight, broke a female police officer’s nose, I guarantee he beats his wife or girlfriend at home).  But cops should be held to a higher standard considering they’re the ones enforcing the law and he should get the exact same punishment this knob gets (they’re both knobs, but the cop should’ve known better and been the better person).

What does your government say? If it is “Avoid all travel” you should listen. The situation in Afghanistan remains highly volatile. You could very well travel the country, meet wonderful people and experience a culture unknown to many. Or, you may get kidnapped by Daesh with your beheading video posted on the internet. Absolutely a horrible idea. Take it from someone that knows first hand the situation in Afghanistan right now there is a reason everyone associated with the west tried to get out of there even by hanging on to the outside of airplanes. There is a very real chance if you were to go there and visit your in laws, Taliban in their town will drag you out in to the streets, execute you and probably also your wife. You do not understand the environment there if you think for a second that’s a good idea. There is a reason flights there are banned right now from the west. 

I will be honest though, I have not worked there since 2018 but I am still updated on the region.

Why would you take such a risk as a Westerner? From personal experience, it’s much better to not take such a risk. Are you willing to risk losing your life or wife?

Purchase tickets for her family to visit you. And please wait until the US State Department advises such travel.

Reasons to not travel there:

1. The US State Department has issued a Level-4 Travel Advisory for Afghanistan. This means “Do Not Travel” due to armed fighting, crime, terrorism, and kidnapping (applies to you both and you may never see your wife and/or home again).

2. The US Embassy in Kabul suspended operations in August, 2021 and cannot provide emergency services in Afghanistan to US citizens. The US government is therefore not able to assist you in any way.

3. Travel throughout Afghanistan is unsafe and the risk of kidnapping or violence against US citizens (really against all Westerners and foreigners) is high. Terrorist groups routinely attack people in Afghanistan with no warning. They specifically target Afghan and US government entities and buildings, and places people visit, especially US citizens/Westerners. 

4. Evacuation options from Afghanistan are virtually nonexistent. 

5. Your Afghan wife may face additional risks because of her nationality, ethnicity, religion, or gender. Women in Afghanistan face widespread discrimination, violence, and harassment. And death by murder.

6. There have been widespread reports of Taliban fighters killing, beating, or abducting women who defy their orders or who are **perceived** as collaborators with their enemies, which includes Western governments. 

I hope this helps you understand the risks of  choosing to travel to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is a beautiful country, as in mountains, history. It was called the Paris of the Middle East in the 1930s to very early 70s. Once they started being influenced by the ussr it went down hill. Then came revolutions,wars, revolutions and more wars. It's just not worth it... your better off meeting family in Pakistan somewhere. It's not worth the risk. Its a risk but if you trust the judgment of her family to make good decisions about keeping your visit discreet you could have the experience of a lifetime. I lived there for 5 years pre-Taliban. I know people who have gone back but they have a very clear understanding if the nuances and risks, and the unique ways of moving around. You would need to trust the process and surrender  decision-making to her family’s best judgment. And grow your beard out.

Regarding safety issues, it’s much much better than what it used to be.

Regarding you travelling with a woman that’s afghan and you’re not, may become an issue for you, there are checkpoints everywhere, an especially larger ones when you take routes leading out of Kabul or try to enter. Traffic and driving is a big mess up in Afghanistan as there are no driving rules, so make sure you rule out you driving as you will not be used to it at all.

Many people say don’t go and I see why, but IF YOU DO, make sure you have a marriage certificate and try to get a translated one at your nearest afghan embassy (might be for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan instead of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, but still shouldn’t cause issues in case of travel to Afghanistan)

I'd say it's not the best due to the present state of unrest lately. Foreigners are questioned intensely and you may be detained/arrested. That being said, if you study up on the laws and follow them to a T, you should be ok. Obvious notes because they need to be said, have a day to day plan: know where you're going and stay on that route, don't go down dark alleyways, learn the language enough to ask the simple questions just in case, don't approach any police officers unless you're truly in danger, etc. Most people will likely politely avoid you due to the police state there. Never do anything that would draw attention to yourself

So from personal experience. While my experience is definitely not from a tourist, civilian exploration and traveling experience, it was deployment for combat as military police in the Army. This was back in 2013 through 2014 so it MIGHT be a bit different now probably, but from my experience it definitely is very risky and dangerous. I admit that the country is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful when it comes to nature; the mountains, valleys, the incredible night skies with practically no light pollution. I’ve never ever in my life have ever seen a more beautiful night sky than in Afghanistan. Hands down, absolutely stunning. The locals are extremely friendly and humble. Very welcoming as well…..but not everyone. There are many tribes and villages where they may seem friendly at first, but have nefarious motives and use the facade of friendliness to try to let your guard down in order to make it easier to execute their plans. I didn’t wear uniforms most of the time, since my mission was to go into villages, towns and cities and get a feel of how the political climate was in those areas, while also pulling security for high value people going into those places to meet up with elders, people in positions of power etc. Food was pretty damn good as well. I guess what I’m trying to say is that yes, it’s very risky and dangerous to travel there. You will attract a lot of unwanted attention, but not everyone is out to get you, or are bad people. There are tons of genuinely kind, humble caring people. I’d rank it as a place to travel by people that are more comfortable to be in high tension areas, people that are more daring and are more in tune with risky traveling. I think to this day Afghanistan is considered the most dangerous country in the world, and it’s been like that for what, 6-10 yrs in a row now? You don’t get that status for no reason. It’s no joke either, you will see both sides of the coin. The incredibly poor, and the incredibly, stupid crazy wealthy. What shocked me the most was seeing that most of the cars that were driven on the highways and roads were Mercedes, BMW, Infinity, all luxurious European cars. Like 98% of the cars I saw were actually those. I’ll never forget how equally beautiful and terrifying Afghanistan is. If you’re an action junkie and thrill seeker, I’d say you’d gotta go and see it for yourself at least once.

As a former US Army soldier who was there in 2013-2014, don't go.  The Afghan people are very friendly and welcoming, and the nature and scenery is breathtaking. The Taliban are ruthless killers and pure evil.  Unless you are binging 200,000 Army Rangers and Force Recon Marines, don't go.  You'll either be killed or kidnapped.

I went to Afghanistan past summer and it was quite safe compared to previous years. I’m Afghan tho so I can easily blend in with the locals. I don’t think as A westerners you would be unsafe. You should still be very wary tho. And if ur A woman I’d recommend going with A male relative. But beside that its actually pretty doable in my opinion.
